On Monday, February 28th, our chapter participated in Pi Phi's annual Fraternity Day of Service (not to mention the birthday of Dr. Seuss!) Pi Phi chapters across the globe donated books and their time to promote the literacy of today's youth. Our chapter visited Covenant Children's Hospital here in Lubbock, TX. We had a wonderful experience spending time with and reading to these children. Their cheerful spirits despite their illness touched many of our hearts and reminded us how blessed we truly are.We hope you take the time to read this personal testimony from Sophomore Chlo Inman of Childress, TX:
"As college students, we can get so caught up in our own world that we overlook the greater aspect of life--others. Being able to go to Covenant and brighten children's day probably had a greater impact on my life than the children's! All of the sick children were so grateful for the simple fact that some girls came to visit them for a couple of hours, and the joy was all over their faces. How could children that have endured such hardship and strife be so grateful for something so minor, yet almost all of us take one of the most significant blessings in life for granted--health? Walking through the beautifully painted halls of the children's floor, it dawned on me how fortunate we all are to have the treasure of health. Holly Harrison and I got the opportunity to visit one room for the day. Isaiah, an 18 year old boy, was laying in his bed with 3 balloons resting under his hand. He was unresponsive to everything going on in the room, but his mother talked about him like he was just another 18 year old boy while stroking his hair. I didn't know what his diagnosis was or how long he had been in this condition, but my heart broke for his, and his family's, sufferings, but I became inspired from the perseverance and love his mother expressed. I left the room with a huge lump in my throat, opened-eyes, and a grateful heart. This philanthropy event has had the biggest impact on my life, and has produced a desire to contribute to society through the involvement in children's hospitals. I know it was a blessing for all involved in the Pi Phi Day of Service!"
